Milestones in Vision Correction
In December 2005, CEO Dr. Jong-Ho Lee achieved a remarkable milestone by becoming the first surgeon in Korea to perform 500 Visian ICL surgeries. STAAR Surgical Company showed gratitude for the excellent contribution to the successful implantation of a Collamer Implantable Contact Lens (Visian ICLTM) in Korea by promoting CEO Dr. Jong-Ho Lee to ICL Instructor, entitling him to train and certify fellow ophthalmologists on the ICL implantation technique. His skills were further acknowledged on the global stage when he was named The World’s Best ICL/Toric ICL Implantation Doctor in 2008 and The World’s Best ICL Surgeon in 2009 and 2010.

At BGSS, our commitment to advancing ophthalmic surgery is evident in our continuous research and clinical analysis. In 2008, during the annual autumn Ophthalmological conference, we proudly introduced a new method for determining the appropriate lens size for Asian eyes and a surgical technique for correcting astigmatism, based on over six years of clinical data.
This drive for innovation has led to significant milestones. In 2011, CEO Dr. Jong-Ho Lee became the first surgeon in Korea to perform 10,000 ICL implantations, earning him membership in the prestigious Visian ICL 10,000 Club. His relentless pursuit of excellence has resulted in BGSS achieving several awards for surpassing 20,000 and then 40,000 ICL surgeries—a testament to our clinic's dedication to patient safety and clinical outcomes.
Global Recognition and Leadership in ICL Surgery
Since 2008, under CEO Dr. Jong-Ho Lee’s leadership, BGSS Eye Clinic has been consecutively recognized as The World’s Best ICL/Toric ICL Implantation Center, an annual honor that highlights our clinical excellence and the highest volume of procedures performed globally.
In 2013, we introduced EVO ICL surgery to Korea, branded domestically as Aqua ICL. Our innovative efforts in this area further established our leadership when STAAR Surgical designated us as the Global Technological Innovation Center and Head Consultant Center, with CEO Dr. Lee Jong-Ho serving as Chairman and Head Instructor. In 2014, BGSS was named a Specialized Center for Aqua ICL, recognizing our clinical excellence, safety, effectiveness, and the large number of procedures we have completed. By 2018, BGSS had earned the title of The World Master of EVO+ ICL Center, recognizing our continued advancement in the field.
Innovative Surgical Techniques for Better Outcomes
Our expertise does not stop at high-volume surgeries; it extends to developing new surgical techniques that improve patient outcomes. CEO Dr. Jong-Ho Lee, alongside senior Dr. Je-Myung Lee, has pioneered a method for implanting an ICL vertically (V-Toric ICL), offering better correction for higher levels of astigmatism. This approach, based on the eye’s vertical anatomical structure, reduces the risk of lens rotation and enhances the security of the correction.
Our innovative techniques have also gained international recognition. In June 2023, the Asia-Pacific Association of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons honored us with the V-Toric ICL Best Poster Award after a rigorous evaluation of its academic value and contribution to the academic development of lens implantation surgery. This accolade was followed by the Korean Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery's Best Paper Award, which recognized the stability and effectiveness of our V-Toric ICL procedure.

In recent years, CEO Dr. Jong-Ho Lee has been honored with the Outstanding Achievement Award, the Appreciation Award, and the Outstanding Contribution to EVO ICL Award. These accolades acknowledge his dedication and significant contributions to establishing EVO ICL as a stable and safe vision correction procedure in Korea over the past two decades.
During the STAAR Surgical 3rd EVO ICL APAC Experts Summit in Okinawa, Japan, CEO Dr. Jong-Ho Lee was invited to serve as a chairperson, where he shared groundbreaking insights and success stories that continue to inspire medical professionals worldwide. The conference marked a significant achievement for BGSS Eye Clinic, as five of our surgeons were awarded prestigious honors, further solidifying our reputation as leaders in ICL surgery. CEO Dr. Jong-Ho Lee was honored with the Outstanding Global Contribution to EVO ICL award for the second time. Additionally, Dr. Je-Myung Lee from Seoul and Dr. Jung-Min Woo from Busan reached an incredible milestone of 10,000 ICL cases. Furthermore, Dr. Kun Moon from Seoul and Dr. Min-Ho Lee from Busan received the esteemed Young EVO ICL Ophthalmologist Award.
